World of Art | 20th Generation | Series of exhibitions in public space
TAM-TAM Street Gallery is starting the new year in collaboration with the World of Art school. The exhibition program on Vegova Street in Ljubljana will be designed and curated by the participants of the first year of the 20th generation.
The collaboration between TAM-TAM Street Gallery and the School for Curatorial Practices and Critical Writing World of Art, which operates under the auspices of the SCCA-Ljubljana Institute, connects art in public space and new projects of young curators. For many years, the Street Gallery on Vegova has been opening a space for diverse artistic expression and encouraging dialogue about contemporary art outside institutional frameworks, thereby addressing a wide audience. At the same time, the World of Art school has been offering a key space for acquiring curatorial knowledge and practical experience for more than two decades, which allows young curators to gain insight into the functioning of the art system and develop their own critical and creative practice. This collaboration combines fresh ideas, research into public space and curatorial practices, thereby striving to make contemporary art more accessible and enrich the cultural space of the city.
The series consists of six exhibitions, curated by Urša Culiberg, Patricija Knap, Lucija Lunder, Kara Marušič, Svit Skobir Lampič and Sabrina Železnik. The exhibition program encourages reflection on current social issues and establishes a dialogue between art and everyday city life.
We invite you to the opening of the first exhibition, titled On the Urban Edge, on Tuesday, 21 January 2025, at 4 PM.
The exhibition is part of a larger project developed by the Kultivarnica association, and deals with the issue of how street art is being pushed to the urban edge and documents abandoned industrial sites where new artworks are emerging. Due to the many years of neglect and the natural overgrowth on these structures, new murals appear in dialogue with nature, sparking questions about sustainability. The photographs in the exhibition were taken by artist Cvetan Nedelkovski during his urban exploring. These works aim to map such sites across Slovenia while documenting and archiving the artworks before they vanish due to demolition or redevelopment of the buildings. The curator of the exhibition, Sabrina Železnik, will talk to the artist at the beginning of the opening.
