Europe Day
Since 1995, SCCA-Ljubljana is developing Evrokultura (www.evrokultura.org), the web tool about relevant national and international funding sources, opportunities for co-operation and educational programmes of EU.
Evrokultura is participating at the iniciative of organisation Enough Room for Space (ERforS), which is celebrating Europe Day with a project of Dutch visual artist Maarten Vanden Eynde.
Maarten Vanden Eynde works on a project which will acknowledge EU's official Europe Day. Europe meets a difficult challenge: how to create a united Europe? Artist raises a question: is Europe a new country with new borders, or is it a concept for freedom and equality?
This year's Europe Day Maarten Vanden Eynde invites us to join a discussion on different concerns and topics that are present in every EU Country.
- Is Europe United in Diversity like the official European Union slogan states?
- And what does United in Diversity mean?
- Is there something like a European cultural identity?
- If not so, do we want to create this identity?
- What is the future of the European Union, and how will it effect and stimulate cultural exchange?
You can participate in the discussion on line: www.europeday.info
Maarten Vanden Eynde's project started in 2006 when he designed an EU flag where stars are arranged according to the geographical position of the capital cities. This creates an open sky full of stars without borders. SCCA, Center for Contemporary Arts - Ljubljana joined the project together with more than 30 European organisations and raised a flag.
