AUSSTELLUNG LAIBACH KUNST 1980-2010 / RED DISTRICT + RED CROSS
The Red District Symposium:
Past Perfect - Future Tense
September 24-26, 2010
Workers Cultural Centre, Trg svobode 11A, Trbovlje
We would like to inform you about the collaboration of Barbara Borčić, SCCA-Ljubljana director and head of video programs.
2010 sees the anniversary of Laibach's first actions in Trbovlje! To mark this occasion Laibach have initiated a series of actions which will explore the full range of the aesthetics developed by the group since 1980. The event will return to the first years of Laibach ´s activity, presenting site specific artworks alongside concerts and a symposium in a cross-disciplinary format.
The symposium will present lectures on various aspects of the history and reference points in the development of the group Laibach. In a series of panel discussions the audience will have the chance to join in the debates. During the three days the symposium will cover subjects including the Yugoslav cultural context, retrogardism, collective practice, artistic and political scandals and the ways in which politicised art actions spill over into real life.
Barbara Borčić (art historian, curator & publicist, director of SCCA-Ljubljana) will reconsider early events and exhibitions that intensively shaped the public image of Laibach Kunst. As director of ŠKUC Gallery in Ljubljana during the early 80s, she was involved in the turbulent alternative scene which triggered and supported also the art practice of the Laibach Group. In the following years she witnessed directly the proliferation and effects of Laibach Kunst visuals and messages into the Slovene (sub)cultural scene and the general public of Yugoslavia as well as their breakthrough into the international music arena.
