June 30, September 28, December 16, 2011
Ljudmila, Rimska 8, Ljubljana
Workshop Mentors: Samo Gosarič, Ida Hiršenfelder and Petra Kapš
Deadline for applications: Tuesday, June 28, 2011
Ljudmila, SCCA–Ljubljana and workshop mentors prepared a workshop on critical writing in the field intermedia arts which offers a dialectical educational model for interpretation and writing on the wide range of art types produced on the crossroads of contemporary art, new technologies and natural sciences.
Duration of the Workshop (3x3 hours):
            - Thursday, 30th June from 5 to 8 PM

              - Wednesday, 28th September from 5 to 8 PM

              - Friday, 16th December from 5 to 8 PM

The workshop is going to be based on a group research and education model in the duration of six months. It is going to explore the extended field of contemporary art that connects various art disciplines (fine art, performing arts, intermedia arts, sound art, media art). We will pursue the open question on how to develop a theoretical apparatus for deciphering the use of such hybrid contents, media tools and information-communication technologies (ICT) within contemporary arts practices and consider possible approaches to interpretation and critique of intermedia works.

Workshop mentors (Samo Gosarič – performing arts, Ida Hiršenfelder – visual arts, Petra Kapš – contemporary arts) are going to base their analysis on a selection of art works and suggest some of the possible entry points to interpretation of intermedia art with the use of theoretic and associative tools.
            The process of the workshop:
In the introductory three hour long session we'll review documentation of selected art works and the presentation of research processes, different methodologies and theoretic frameworks to stimulate group discussion and analysis. Participants will receive a list of suggested references, texts and on-line audiovisual materials to be studied till the second meeting in September. In the meantime they will work on tasks and exercises given by the mentors intended to help them think about art works and develop their own texts. For interaction and construction of the texts, the mentors and participants are going to use on-line writing tools for collaborative writing – wiki and booki. In the second meeting participants are going to analyse selected works that they will have previously seen live with the help of discursive exercises. In the concluding three months period they are going to write a critique in a format of their own choice, and are going to analyse it live in the presence of the mentors.
The texts developed in this workshop will be published as a reader. The results of the workshop will also be published on-line at the Ljudmila Blog and SCCA web site. The workshop is intended for those already writing on contemporary arts, as well as those who wish to start.
