Saša Nabergoj at the international conference Applied Exhibiting
Discussions for 10 years anniversary of ECM, educating, curating and managing studies at the University of Applied Arts in Vienna
May 10-11, 2012
University of Applied Arts Vienna, Oskar Kokoschka-Platz 2, Vienna
The history of exhibiting is the history of an interdisciplinary practice in the visual field, in which form and meaning, cultural production and its significance for the society are closely intertwined. Thus exhibitions maintain the claims and traditions of applied arts but revise and actualize them. With respect to the current process of re-formulating the term 'applied' it seems crucial to carefully scrutinize the demands and claims made to museums and exhibitions. Particularly important in this regard are the debates concerning democratization, participation, intervention, utopia and knowledge production. They all have in common that they think the 'applied' and 'exhibiting' together. This applies in particular to questions related to the design of exhibitions and the handling of objects. All the issues mentioned above will be discussed in depth at an international conference.
Many internationally recognized experts (Suzana Milevska, Peter Weibel, Barbara Steiner, Erwin K. Bauer, Martin Krenn, Marion von Osten, Kristina Leko and others) will attend two day international conference. They will discuss above-mentioned questions during their lectures and debates.
Saša Nabergoj will participate with her article About curatorial interventions on panel talk with Amer Abed Abbas and Martin Krenn.
Conference is organized by ECM, Educating Curating Managing Studies, University of Applied Arts Vienna
