KOLEKTIVA (Vesna Bukovec, Lada Cerar, Metka Zupanič) is participating with the project RENTaTENT.
KOLEKTIVA, RENTaTENT, exhibition Within a dialogue, Ptuj, 2012
First joint project of Vesna Bukovec, Lada Cerar and Metka Zupanič was performed as public action which took place during the 11. Biennial of the Young Artists of Europe and the Mediterranean in Athens in June 2003.
Artist statement:
Our project is to offer to the public (and to artists) of the Biennial a place to rest. As we all know how a tiring experience a visit of a large exhibition with hundreds of art pieces could be, especially in the summer. We offer a friendly gesture - seven tents in the shadow where tired visitors can rest for a few hours free of charge.
We take an everyday service (a profitable and marketable enterprise) and transfer it to the art field. We would like to keep as many characteristics of a real "service" with the most important exception - no charging and no profit. We offer our "customers" a 'survival kit' (deodorant, sunscreen, shampoo) and a project's postcard.
The artists are present at the "reception" in front of tents and are open for the discussion with the public. Besides the friendly gesture of offering a place to rest, very important thing to us is the act of socializing - of being there and talk to the people.
The project was presented for the second time as part of the retrospective exhibition of KOLEKTIVA Within a dialogue in May 2012 at the Mihelič Gallery in Ptuj, Slovenia. Two tents were set up on the meadow in front of the gallery. Inside a sample of the 'survival kit' from the Athens intervention was exhibited.
For the Admission Free festival KOLEKTIVA presents the project as public intervention in the Celje city center. Three tents will be set up for the time of the festival on the lawn behind the Contemporary art gallery (Galerija sodobnih umetnosti Celje). Visitors and passersby will be able to rest or sleep in the tents free of charge.
Project presentation by Vesna Bukovec:
Wednesday, June 20th at 2 p.m.
The lawn behind Galerija sodobnih umetnosti Celje, Trg celjskih knezov 8, Celje
