On Thursday, 22 May 2014 you are kindly invited to KIBLA PORTAL, to attend the opening of a group exhibition Don't Be Afraid, You Are The Best by Petra Varl, author, selector and mentor.

The exhibition, or, better yet, project, draws on a medium closest to the author, which is drawing. Hidden behind its seeming simplicity is a minimalistically concise and thus complex method of expression, which is an object of enduring fascination. Don't Be Afraid, You Are The Best is intended as a communicative community project that transforms the extensive KIBLA PORTAL venue into a space of vivacious creative dialog between artists belonging to different generations.

Vesna Bukovec, SCCA-Ljubljana's webmaster is also participating at the exhibition with a drawing from the I can make another turn (2012) series.

Blind Date Convention is the central Slovenian event dedicated to the medium of artist book, artistic periodicals, zines, and artistic editions. The festival will present several dozen local and international producers, artists, self-publishers and independent publishers at three locations in Ljubljana: P74 Center and Gallery, KAPSULA and CUK Kino Šiška. The festival includes an exhibition programme, educational workshops, presentations of newly released artist books and periodicals, promotional events, public talks and guided tours of the fair.

Petra Varl was born in 1965 in Ljubljana, Slovenia. She graduated with a Master of Fine Arts degree from The Ljubljana Academy of Fine Arts in 1997. She has shown her work in numerous independent and group shows, including the Sao Paolo Biennial. Since the year 2000 she has been working as an Associate Professor of drawing and graphic arts at the Fine Arts Department of the Teacher’s College of the University of Maribor. She lives and works in Ljubljana and Maribor.
