conditions in local contemporary visual arts
Curator: Domen Ograjenšek
Artist: Tjaša Pogačar Podgornik

Project Room SCCA, Metelkova 6, Ljubljana
In last ten years it is possible to observe the tendency in institutional programs towards more and more emphasised educational side also in local milieu, which brings about the growth of self-organised and usually unofficial educational activities integrated in exhibition and pedagogical programs of contemporary arts institutions.
The project will try to analyse the educational practices that place themselves in the intersection between artistic, pedagogical and curatorial domain and critically reconsider their stakes, potentials and impacts (i.e. active political participation and emancipation on one side and presumed social-transformative production of knowledge on the other).
On the basis of the presented conclusions Domen Ograjenšek and Tjaša Pogačar Podgornik will perform an intervention into the space of SCCA – Ljubljana, Center for Contemporary Arts in consideration with its history and actual positioning in the field of art production and education. The performative act will aspire at locating other possible impacts /potentials/meanings of these kind of practices, and consequently shift the deliberation beyond the discourse on educational turn and related notions of contemporary art: first of all, concepts of art as production of social relations (relational concept) and art as learning and knowledge production (epistemological concept).
