Opening and artist's demonstration of his artistic practice:
Thursday, January 10, 2013, at 7 pm
Edvin Dobrilović is an artist who has been working in frame of the Autonomous Cultural Centre Metelkova City in Ljubljana already since 1995. Although a painter by education, his practice is very diverse in terms of both, formal art genres as well as the techniques he applies. Following a present focus of Studio 6 – a framework of his present exhibition – which is the modus operandi and work process of the invited artists, the opening will offer a special demonstration of his process of work. Exactly the work process – from the idea to the realisation of an art piece – is something usually still lacking in discussions and is often overlooked also among professionals. On the other hand, it is by nature considered a hidden part of artist's practice.
In a special demonstration Edvin Dobrilović let us take a quick peek into his artistic process. In an hour long presentation accompanied with visual material, he talked about the ideas for his projects and their material basis. He spoke about ''trash'' which is his constant source of inspiration, about formal aspects of his practice and technical problems he is facing. He outlined also his attitude towards art and the meaning of art and suggested few clues which could help us to understand his work. Or, not really, since all in all, Edvin's answer to the question what is the meaning of life is: the humour. Which is also the key to his world of art.
Edvin Dobrilović often works on a specific theme for a longer period; he develops it and is coming back to it over and over again. Hence, we will exhibit four of his series: Symbols in Offence, Theatrically Surrealistically, Sayings and Proverbs, Collage in Package. First three series are completely new, produced specially for this exhibition and yet unseen!
